On our website and actually everywhere where the queer youth center PULS* Düsseldorf writes, we use the gender asterisk. This can perform various tasks in one sentence. It can be used in words like “students” or “teachers”. This makes it clear that all genders are meant.

Behind terms like “Trans*” or “Inter*” it has the function of a placeholder and shows that different terms can be used in this place, such as -sexual, -ident,- gender and all of them are meant.  In addition, the gender asterisk can also be placed after terms such as “woman*” or “man*” to show that these are socially constructed and are not “biological truths”.
